Assemblies

I wanted to express to our junior high students not only the names of our character themes, but also what they mean. Furthermore, I wanted to do this in a more interactive environment than I had seen at different sites while working as a teacher. Our first idea was to go to students before the assembly and ask them to write what respect, etc. meant to them and then having them read the cards during the assembly. While I think this would have worked, I decided to interview them via video and then present the videos as part of a larger PowerPoint presentation. I hoped that this would keep kids from refusing at the last minute due to fear of speaking in front of their peers, and the students' attention level was high due to the novelty of seeing their peers (or themselves) on the "big screen."

Grade Level: Junior High

Duration: 30 minutes

Materials: Laptop, LCD Projection Unit, Video Camera (or just 3X5 cards)

Facilities: Media Center or Other Large Room
